BROADLEAF WEED CONTROL
Liquid applications of broadleaf weed control are generally done once in May and again in September. These broadcast applications are the most effective way to deal with dandelions, clover, and a host of other broadleaf weeds. We will also spot treat weeds as needed while doing fertilizer applications. There are currently NO effective post-emergent organic weed control products available.
SPECIALTY WEED CONTROL FOR DIFFICULT WEEDS
Creeping Charlie, violet, thistle, and extensive weed coverage may require a specialty weed control product. These applications are only done in the cooler weather of spring and fall. It may be necessary to do more than one application to maintain effective control of these difficult weeds.
For tall weeds/overgrowth and unwanted turf, Emerald Lawn Care can eliminate all vegetation (broadleaf and grasses) with a broad-spectrum herbicide. This generally requires two weeks, depending on weather conditions. Reseeding or sodding can be done immediately after the treated plant material has been removed. Since this is not a pre-emergent application, there is no guarantee or warranty following the initial two weeks.
BED WEED CONTROL
Our Bed Weed Control program typically consists of two applications. The first is a pre-emergent bed weed control application in spring. This is a granular product that provides several months of control for most broadleaf weeds and grasses. This application needs to be watered in.
In mid-summer we follow up with an application of a non-selective herbicide (Roundup) which is spot-sprayed to control weeds that break through the pre-emergent barrier (or in beds that did not get pre-emergent). You will see results in approximately 10-14 days. The non-selective application is only guaranteed for 14 days since it is not a pre-emergent. If you require additional applications, your program can be customized to add them.
Selective control of bentgrass can be very difficult and will require three consecutive applications of a specialty herbicide in August/September. These applications are spaced two weeks apart and we typically recommend the lawn be overseeded immediately prior to the final application. This program will generally provide approximately 90% control and will likely require follow-up applications in subsequent years to maintain control. These applications will cause the bentgrass to turn white and are also effective on nimblewill.
